RESIDENTIAL ENERGY TAX CREDIT requirements

The federal government offers tax credits to homeowners who choose to install energy-efficient products on their home.

What federal tax credits are available for installing your energy-efficient products?

The IRS keeps an updated list on their website:

How do I apply for the federal residential energy tax credit? There are two main steps:

STEP 1

First, you need to fill out IRS Form 5695 — the Residential Energy Tax Credit. You can only apply for the tax credit for the year that the product was installed. So if you signed a contract in December for a product installed in January, it would be applied for the January year.

STEP 2

Next, you’ll need the material cost of your project. You can use the worksheet linked here to calculate the number. But don’t worry if you’re not great with math! If you need help figuring out the material cost for your project, just call our Customer Care team. We are happy to help you!

NFRC WINDOW CERTIFICATIONS

The National Fenestration Rating Council is a non-profit, third-party organization the government uses to determine if a window qualifies for energy-efficient tax credits.

Our window models are territory specific, so please check your Project Specifications document to identify the window models installed in your home. Then, download the corresponding NFRC certification.
